Child Sore Throat Taxable Many times Beware of Damaged Heart
Sometimes children are often experiencing sore throat and fever. But this condition should not be ignored, because if repeated infections can cause disturbances in the heart.
"If the child has a fever, hard to swallow, painful sore throat should not be considered normal. Because of recurrent infections caused by Streptococcus group A beta hemolyticus can cause rheumatic heart disease in children," said Dr. Poppy S Roebiono, SpJP heart doctor who is also a child in a press conference ASMIHA (Annual Scientific Meeting Indonesian Heart Association) to 20 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Jakarta, Friday (25/3/211).
Rheumatic heart disease (PJR) in medical language known as rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) is a condition in which there is damage to heart valves that can be narrowed or leaking. Problems rheumatic heart disease is usually much inflicted on children with low socio-economic.
Problems that can arise in rheumatic heart disease is narrowing so that the valve had decreased blood flow, leakage of the valve that allows blood to flow in the wrong direction or damage to the heart muscle so that blood pumping function becomes impaired.
Dr. Poppy says if the child is exposed to the infection of Streptococcus group A beta hemolyticus then the body will provide resistance to eliminate the toxins released by the bacteria. If the infection or repeated so often happens these toxins can cause heart valve damage or become inflamed.
"This incident is usually attacks children at age 5-15 years, although there are also occurring in children under the age of 4 years but very few in number," said Dr. Poppy.
Dr. Poppy added, originally only red heart valve may be, then develop into such bickering and eventually can cause damage or leaks in the valve so it must be replaced.
To handle this should be carried out surgical operations to replace the damaged valve, in particular valve problems can be overcome by using a catheter technique but it is still difficult.
